Gleaning

I have always been drawn to construction sites. They are fluid, ever changing places where structures are made in a day, used and then cast away before the next. There are always things to be discovered there, in the chaos of it all. I feel like gleaning best describes what I do at the sites; I am preserving what was cast away and highlighting what might never be noticed.

A portfolio of Gum-bichromate prints on Reeves BFK with Windsor & Newton watercolors produced by Anna Strickland..
These photographs were taken with an antique Zeiss Super Ikonta camera. The medium format negatives were enlarged onto 4x5 fine grain positive film which was then enlarged to create three tonal separation negatives the same scale as the final images.

In order to create a gum print with a wide tonal range up to three exposures were made for each print. Although similar pigments were used for each image look of the print will vary according to the number of layers and the length of exposure time.
